YENSA Festival, produced by Lua Shayenne Dance Company (LSDC), is an international biennial festival that celebrates the work of women in dance, from African and Afro-diasporic culture.

YENSA Festival invites audiences to engage and celebrate with us the incredible evolution of Black dance and have conversations about the diversity of African Diasporic aesthetics, its histories and politics from a female perspective.

YENSA Festival 2024’s program includes WORKSHOPS designed to help you learn and grow with exceptional instructors, two nights of electrifying PERFORMANCES, an engaging PANEL DISCUSSION where you can interact with dance practitioners and share your thoughts, and a vibrant COMMUNITY CELEBRATION filled with joy and unity.

Mark your calendars and reserve your ticket!

YENSA Festival 2024 is here!

From August 21st to 25th, 2024, at the Betty Oliphant Theatre and Toronto Metropolitan University, YENSA Festival will highlight Black female dance artists, providing a space for them to experiment, reimagine, and destabilize conventional notions of dance making.

This year’s festival themes centre on the role of the Black body as a vessel of memories, as well as movement as a source of wellness, transcendence, and joy.

We invite YOU – our treasured audiences and participants to engage deeply with these dynamic performances and to courageously immerse yourselves in the diverse activities and workshops offered.
